05/17/2010 Day 3

Super day. Started in Mitchell SD. Up and ready to go by 9:30 am. Fill the RV with gas $80.00/but we did get 10 miles to the gallon [happy with that] My sister drove for a while and Judy did too. They both did a great job-looks like Jim and I can set back and let them drive part of the time [great]. Speed limit is 75. Around Plankinton SD we saw pheasants, supposed to be mating season.
we saw lots of bats under the overpasses. We stopped at a lookout at Chamberlin SD. From this lookout we could see the Missouri river from a high elevation. The rest area has a new exhibit on the Lewis and Clark expedition, but it won't open until next week. We then went on to the Bad Lands, we drove the scenic byway through The Bad Lands National Forest. I will include some great photos. There are several viewing areas with walk ways that allowed us to get right in there where hop-a-long Cassidy went after BAD guys. The road was awful, but we saw coyote, antelope, bighorn sheep, and lots of prairie dogs. Filled the gas tank again $117.00 and about 7mpg [not so good] We've lost two hours because of the time zones, we are going to have to adjust to that. We are at a KOA campground in Rapid City, SD.

  2. So, have you figured out how to add captions to pictures?
    Apparently not! :-)
Great pic of the Badlands (I'm assuming). Wonder what the bridge is.

  3. I think it's "the bridge to somewhere". You'll see it's sister bridge a little later. :-)
